Trying to decide which massage to get? Even if you’ve had a few massages, you may not know the specific differences between Swedish massages, hot stone massages, and other types of massages.

What are the pros and cons of different massages? Which massage is right for you? Find out today as we explore the differences between popular massages.

What is a Swedish Massage?

A Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of massage offered by clinics today. If this is your first time at a spa, you should start with a Swedish massage.

Sweden founded the concept of the western massage. Today, a Swedish massage is more of a general term for a series of massage techniques, some of which blend the lines between sports massages, deep tissue massages, aromatherapy massages, and others.

Typically, a Swedish massage lasts about 50 or 60 minutes, although some can last 75 to 90 minutes. They can be slow and gentle or vigorous and bracing. It depends on the therapist’s personal massage style – and your own personal preferences.

What is a Hot Stone Massage?

During a hot stone massage, a therapist will place smooth, heated stones on your body. The stones are used as an extension of the therapists’ hands. Have you ever wished your masseuse had 8 hands? A hot stone massage is the closest you’ll get to that experience.

Hot stone massages can be deeply relaxing. They can also be very effective at releasing the tension in tight, built-up muscles. Using hot stones, therapists can work more deeply and more quickly to address problems throughout your body.

What About Other Massages?

Of course, Swedish and hot stone massages aren’t your only two options. At Mozaik Skin & Body, we offer a range of other massages, including Signature Massages, Revitalization Massages, Restoration Massages, and Express Massages.
